The tour in a nutshell
DAY 1: Travel from Port Elizabeth to Somerset East with a pitstop at Nanaga Farmstall. In Somerset East we visit the Walter Batiss Museum and lunch at Somerset House with renowned chef Janet Telian.
Continue on to Cradock where the Tuishuise and Victoria Manor Hotel are home for three nights.
DAY 2: Browse the Karoo Food Festival, plus a workshop and venison demo, lunch and talk with TV chefs Lani and Louzelle Lombard. Dress-up dinner in the grand Victoria Manor.
DAY 3: Visit to Lowlands Farm, with a farm-to-table lunch and breadmaking demonstration. Supper and slideshow with a talk on the Karoo Heartland
by regular Country Life contributors and award-winning journalists Chris Marais and Julienne du Toit.
DAY 4: Travel to Nieu-Bethesda, home of the famous Owl House. Lunch at Two Goats Deli before proceeding to Graaff-Reinet where The Drostdy
Hotel is home for two nights. Braai with hosts John and Winky Biggs on Vrede Farm that evening.
DAY 5: Travel to Richmond for a hands-on charcuterie workshop with well-known food author Annetjie Reynolds. Lunch at Booktown in Richmond followed by a farm visit and starlight supper.
DAY 6: Walk down Church Street to Kamdeboo Supermeats Butchery and FarmFare market, where local farmers’ wives sell their home-baked goods. Drive up Panorama Hill for views of the town then on to the spectacular Valley of Desolation. Lunch at Polka Restaurant in Graaff-Reinet before departing for Port Elizabeth Airport.
