The unmistakable aroma of pork ribs being smoked lures one to this tiny place on the square in Hermanus.

Of course, there is no sea view but that is made up for in spades by the quality of the food to be had here.
There is a cute little porch one can sit on and watch the ebb and flow of the Hermanus scene, or if the heat is getting to you the interior is cosy and just the place to be when things get hopping outside.
The restaurant runs through from the square to the main road so one can enter at either side. Try the smoked pork ribs with cherry mustard sauce and veggies or the oxtail, maybe the lamb shank(R135), all lovingly prepared right there but do not leave without having a go at the smoked pork belly (R185) and the excellent Beef fillet(R165) all served with heavenly creamy mash potato.
The rump (R195) is aged for 40 days and is perfect when prepared just the way you like it. For things fishy and Oriental try the Thai kingklip and prawns or if you really need food comforting—and who does not? — the kabeljou done with roasted almonds and mash will satisfy the inner you.
The wine list reflects some of the best of the region. A beautiful print of Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss” on the walls shows where this place’s heart is while an ornate frame revealing the original bricks of the venerable cottage shows they know where they come from.
This is definitely somewhere that could tell a tale or two if it could speak.
