The L’Ormarins estate in Franschhoek is home to some of the very best wines from this prestigious area.
Wines bottled under the Anthonij Rupert portfolio include Cape of Good Hope, Terra del Capo, Protea, and of course, L’Ormarins. All are recommended to be tasted and bought there.
Not only that, but one of the delights is their superb collection of antique and other cars — a pleasure for the little boy that lurks in many of us.
The setting is unrivalled, with the Drakenstein Mountains forming a spectacular backdrop to it all. Wandering through the estate is one of life’s great pleasures.
The Tasting Room is elegant in the extreme and taking High Tea there is an experience never to be forgotten. Obviously one needs to book for this. Make sure you let them know if you would like a little of their fabulous bubbly just to take the edge off all that healthy tea—and the marvellous cakes that go with it.
Superb views and the feeling that the world – the real world — is just that little bit further away — and therefore just that little bit less tiresome, is well worth the trip.
Winemaking is under the very experienced hands of Dawie Botha and Mark Van Buuren while the MCC is taken care of by Zanie Viljoen.
So when you feel things crowding in on you — get out of town and head to the mountains. It’s well worth it.
