If ever there was a match made in heaven it is the two famous Italians, Giorgio Nava and Giulio Bertrand of 95 at Morgenster, a superb restaurant in an idyllic setting overlooking a lake and the mountains of Somerset West.

Add to this Giorgio’s great food and Mr Bertrand’s famous wines and I cannot see any reason not to rush there.
Start with one of three fabulous salads, either the one with smoked salmon, avocado, tomato and Morgenster’s famous olive oil, or the one with burrata mozzarella with tomato, anchovies, capers and black olives—irresistible, or the avocado and blue cheese with pecan nuts, fresh as can be.
Go on to pasta –slow baked Karoo lamb ravioli or gnocchi in a rich sauce—all delicious. Mains include outstanding meat dishes which Giorgio specialises in—beef sirloin in thyme jus and caramelised onion purée, or the seared calve ’s liver with balsamic onions—deliciously rich.
The knockout dessert is the dark Italian chocolate hot fondant, with a rich liquid chocolate centre—outrageously fun.
Starters range from R80 to R120, mains around R160, and pastas at R90.The superb wines of the estate are just the right thing to go with this great food.
The menu changes often and make sure you phone ahead to check on opening hours and to make a reservation.
