Giulio Bertrand, the owner of iconic estate, Morgenster, died on 20 May 2018.
Words by Greg Landman
His was a long, rich life lived to the full, making a difference in so many ways. He was a gentleman in the old sense of the word, patrician to the tips of his fingers, charming and hospitable in the extreme.
He had the knack of making all who interacted with him feel really special. In the SA olive oil industry he was a giant and the wines from Morgenster are known all over the world for their uncompromising quality.
He bought Morgenster, one of the jewels of the Cape, in 1991 and with superb business acumen and true Italian passion made it into something unique. There are not many people of his calibre and we were lucky to have had him in our part of the world.
To his daughters Alessandra and Federica and families, commiserations on the passing of a legend.
