If you like to eat—and who does not—make a beeline for the Market at The Palms in Woodstock every Saturday. Oh it is not the granddaddy of markets but it has the elusive something we all love—PARKING!!
The place is buzzing with Capetonians all doing what we do best—browsing and spending some Rands. There are many stalls, mostly food but some very good crafts as well. You will definitely find something to add that extra little something to your life.
The pies at Nellie’s are irresistible—I usually not only eat one there but take some home. They are very well priced when you consider that a place which will remain nameless, where I almost bought a pie the other day, thought I would pay R65 for it—no way!
Then there is Kurt’s Deli, very popular with the regulars. Not only is his chorizo one of the best I have had in a long time but the bacon and biltong is delicious.
If you are looking for beautifully made craft stalls, look at the clothing—there are many and the items are also very affordable. Not only that but they aren’t available anywhere else. I always head straight for Whimsical Woodworks to see what is new in his beautiful objects. Sometimes I relent and even buy something. I do not part with money very readily but some battles one cannot win!
The live music just helps things to chill, adding an extra je ne sais quoi to it all. OK it’s not France—but close!
Market at the Palms takes place every Saturday from 09:00 to 14:30. The Palms Decor and Lifestyle Centre’s address is 145 Sir Lowry Road, Woodstock. The exhibitors change every week. So don’t think you have seen it all!
