The Milkwood Restaurant at Onrus is so well situated that one would be forgiven for thinking that they could rest on that alone, but the food is good and well-priced, service is friendly and the wine list reflects some of the best from this area and others at prices that will not break the bank.
Starters of deep fried calamari tentacles with lime mayo or grilled aubergine stuffed with chive cream cheese make a great way to begin. There is also a very good Classic Caesar salad with parmesan shavings –all these around R60. When they have it, the pan seared tuna on a bed of Asian style salad with a nice tart citrus dressing is delicious. The beer battered hake and chips (R98) and deep fried calamari with homemade tartar sauce are among the best around.
Carnivores will love the burgers with caramelised onions and all the trimmings or sirloin with mushroom or blue cheese sauce. The mixed seafood pasta with a tomato base makes a nice change from all that cream. Waffles with maple syrup are a delicious way to end. There is a kids’ menu which features sausage and mash or spaghetti bolognaise.
