One of my favourite places to go in Franschhoek is the Tuk Tuk Brewery. Not only does it get one out of the inescapable “French” thing that is an integral part of the town—and which I love—but one can drink beer.

A change is as good as a holiday. Tuk Tuk is located on Franschhoek’s vibey main street and is well known for its bespoke brews and Mexican food. The popular Taqueria has recently introduced mouth-watering new dishes on its updated menu.
These include various small snack items, aka the chimichangas and croquettes– ideal to enjoy with drinks without having to order a big meal. Hanging out with some good friends, some great beer, and plenty of high flavour Mexican small dishes just hits the right spot.
Menu flavours lean towards Tex Mex, with the focus being on comfort food like corn fajitas, game fish tostadas, burritos, and a delectable buttermilk fried chicken burger served with hand-cut chips.
To finish in true Mexican style with something indescribably sweet try flan de leche, a chilli chocolate brownie or tres leches lamingtons, way beyond anything anyone in England ever thought up. If you are trying desperately to stay healthy go for the delicious Baja fish with sliced jalapeño, radish and pickled cucumber.
Tuk Tuk’s kitchen is open daily from 11h00 to 21h00 during low season; and from 11h00 to 21h30 (bar closes at 23h00) during high season.
