Vineyard Views Country House Riebeek Kasteel Opens

By Greg Landman

There comes a time in every life when one gets the urge to drop out of the humdrum, to recharge one’s batteries, to rejuvenate a special relationship or just to be spoiled in a very special way.

Of course there is retail therapy, much loved in the city, but when that begins to pall, there is nothing better, as far as I am concerned, than getting oneself to the beautiful country that lies all around us.

The twin towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West have always had the natural rivalry similar to that of sisters showing off.

They both have their pleasures, but the newly opened Vineyard Views Country House in Riebeek Kasteel is poised to become a place of note.

The personal touch, so absolutely necessary in this kind of place, is provided by the owners Gareth and Grant, for whom nothing is too much trouble. You want to relax poolside with a gin and tonic in hand as the sun sets over the glorious views? Gareth will oblige. Dinner by candlelight on the elegant patio? Voila, it is there. Breakfast overlooking the rolling vineyards with a glass of bubbly to set you up for the day? Ask and it is yours. The house is elegant without being precious, a delightful example of taste and money wisely spent. Spectacular mountain and vineyard views are provided by Mother Nature.

The suites are air-conditioned when the fierce summer gets too much with an honesty bar fridge to help you through the day when the need for solitude is paramount. Otherwise relax in the house in the comfortable public spaces. There are four suites, including one grand one when you really want to spoil yourself.

So the next time life gets a bit too much, drop out for a while and loosen your belt—just a little.
