Conservationists in Bolivia are in a rush to find a mate for a sehuencas water frog, believed to be the last of his species.
He’s called Romeo and he currently resides at the Cochabamba Natural History Museum. He has around 5 years left to find his mate before he goes to that froggy heaven in the sky.
Scientists in Bolivia are currently searching all streams and rivers to find a female so a breeding programme can start.
To aid them in their search, they’ve now turned to the public for funding. The dating website, Match, started a profile for Romeo to raise awareness and it seems to have helped. Just before Valentine’s Day, the total contributions stood at R165 000.
According to Romeo’s Match profile, he “likes spending his nights at home, binge-watching the water around him.”
