The Cape Leopard Trust has held the fragile future of the endangered Cape Leopard in its hands since 2004 and to mark its 10th anniversary the Trust has partnered with Bridgestone to launch the #ChangeYourSpots campaign, encouraging South Africans to make a difference on World Environment Day June 5.
When visiting changeyourspots.co.za supporters can describe how they will change their spots to make a difference – through donations or simply by sharing the plight of the Cape Leopard with their network of friends, colleagues and family.
“A leopard can’t change its spots but we know that with a change in mindset, we humans can. So whether you start recycling, save water, put an end to a bad habit, support conservation efforts or help educate others on how to save the planet, Bridgestone and the Cape Leopard Trust want you to make the change,” said Jan Maritz of Bridgestone South Africa, which has been involved as a major sponsor of the Trust for the past five years.
The Trust administers a conservation programme in the Western Cape, which includes conservation strategies, research projects and tourism initiatives focusing on using the iconic Cape leopard as an umbrella species to ensure broader environmental conservation. The Trust also runs a successful environmental education programme providing environmental camps and outings to educate and encourage youth to have a vested interest in the environment.
“We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with the #ChangeYourSpots campaign, and what better time to do so than around World Earth Day,” said Dr Quinton Martins, co-founder and CEO of the Cape Leopard Trust.
