Eels Cause Chaos on Coastal Highway

A highway on the Oregon Coast in the USA was brought to a standstill after nearly 4 ton mixture of slime and eel was dumped on the road.

The driver of the truck transporting the load of hagfish somehow lost control and the whole lot spilled onto the road and a few nearby vehicles. Unfortunately, most of the hagfish were still alive, but all perished in the incident.

The hagfish releases this slime as a defence mechanism to protect themselves from their natural predators. It’s meant to stick to and block gills, so you can just imagine how messy the situation was.
