A disastrous fire broke out at iconic Lanzerac in the early hours of May 28, 2017.
The cause of the blaze is still unknown, but the damage has been severe. The main areas that were destroyed include the hotel, Governor’s Hall Restaurant, Craven Lounge, Taphuis Bar and administrative offices.
Luckily no loss of life has been reported. No damage was caused to the Manor House, guest rooms, wine cellar and vineyards. The decision has been made to close the estate until further notice.
Lanzerac CEO, Winston Cowie, said “Lanzerac has come to represent so much to Stellenbosch, so you have our utmost assurance to rebuild this iconic property with great care.”
