Carolyn Steyn, well-known South African philanthropist, has suggested that South Africans knit scarves for the needy so they can be left in public places.
This is not the first time Carolyn has combined charity and knitting. Back in 2013 she was presented with a challenge – knit 67 blankets for the needy for Madiba Day. Hundreds of people got involved and the result has been thousands of blankets going to the needy over the last few years.
The recent cold weather inspired Carolyn to post a suggestion on social media. The message is simple: Churn out as many scarves as you possibly can before 13 July 2017. On that day, these scarves will be tied around trees, lamp posts and basically everywhere you can tie a scarf. These scarves will then be left for those who need them most.
