Well, have we got some good news for you. Mitsubishi has just launched a very limited edition of its Triton bakkie, called the Xtreme.

It’s available in 4×4 and 4×2 guises, powered by the same 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel engine that develops 133 kW at 3 500 rpm and peak torque of 430 Nm. The 4×4 version can be fitted with either a manual or automatic gearbox.

It’s also a bit of a bargain, as it comes as standard with over R60 000 worth of accessories, but it only costs R20 000 more than the standard car.

Apart from the aggressive body kit and chunky tyres, you also get additional protection for high-risk components such as the front and rear lights, the grille and bonnet, wheel arches and tailgate, protecting it against superficial damage on off-road excursions.

“The Xtreme package includes some of the highest-cost additions new owners often opt for when they order their new vehicles, but now form part of the latest special-edition Triton Xtreme Double Cab at a fraction of the cost,” says Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa. “All fitments are done and quality-checked by Mitsubishi SA, using imported body kits, which means all the additional Xtreme accessories are covered by the original manufacturer’s factory warranty.”
