Julian Short who emerged as the winner of the SA Diageo World Class Bartender of the Year competition is getting ready to represent SA in Mexico from the 21st to 24th of August 2017.
Short will be competing against the best bartenders from 60 countries across the globe.
Now in its 6th year locally, World Class is a global luxury drinks program 100% owned by Diageo. The program consists of 2 parts; a trade cocktail competition as well as a very high-end training program. World class exists to make people care about what, how and where they drink, and strives to educate people to understand fine drinking as well as they understand good food.
Diageo’s World Class program is at the leading edge of the drinks industry, aside from hosting the competition, it offers support and training to future bar staff, and invests in research which will underpin how the trade evolves in the future.
Steve Saunders, Senior Reserve Brand Ambassador at Diageo South Africa says, “We are thrilled at how far we have come with this competition, and have faith in Julian Short’s flawless skill. His passion has landed him the number one position against very talented contenders and we wish him the best of luck as he goes out to join 60 talented mixologists on a victory quest for the ultimate prize, which will be battled out for four days in Mexico City.”
