Ford Ranger Raptor Details Emerge

Earlier this month we reported that Ford’s currently hard at work developing a Raptor version of its Ranger bakkie.

Not much information was available at that point, but details are slowly starting to emerge.

If you were hoping for a turbocharged petrol engine will be disappointed. Ford is actually going in the opposite direction. The Raptor won’t be fitted with a V6 petrol or even the powerful 3.2l five-cylinder diesel. No, the Raptor will be using a 2.0l twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine…

At least the power outputs are impressive. No official figures are available yet, but Ford is aiming for 150kW and 470Nm of torque that will be sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. That’s not much, but it seems more emphasis is being placed on the suspension setup.

Rumours suggest the suspension will be toughened up and the ride height will be raised. The wheels will be wider and it will have loads of underbody protection.

As far as off-roading is concerned, it seems the Ranger Raptor is going to be a monster.
