Karkloof Illustrated

It’s not an unusual sight to spot resident outdoor endurance enthusiast Ian Macleod running around Karkloof in his guise as #CountryRunner. He’s sure to participate again and again

One of his favourites is the Wildlands Three Cranes Challenge: three days of trail running through a lush (and very muddy) Midlands. Apart from the sheer joy of it all, the event raises funds for the Wildlands programme to rebuild the local crane communities.

There was time for some luxuriating. A night at the Karkloof Safari Spa was just that.

Three days on the trails, averaging 36km per day will test the soul as well as equipment.

And there was more luxury in store. A night at Granny Mouse Country House and Spa on Nottingham Road was the ideal break between the tough run and heading back to the real world.
