The World’s First Driving Dog

The World’s First Driving Dog

There are millions of stray animals across the globe and it’s a constant struggle to find homes for them.

Every year, SPCA offices all over the world have to come up with new and creative ways of convincing people to adopt rather than buy, and a few years ago the SPCA in New Zealand adopted the slogan, “Dogs this smart deserve a home.”

To show people just how smart their dogs were, they taught three of them how to drive. The Mini Countryman had to be modified slightly so Monty, Porter and Ginny would be able to brake and accelerate, but the rest of the car was kept standard.

All three dogs were adopted shortly after, but this particular campaign was never attempted again.

Watch Porter, the world’s first driving dog, in action below.
