The great herb grower Margaret Roberts, who passed away on Saturday, worked with her daughter and business partner Sandy Roberts for 32 years at the renowned Margaret Roberts Herbal Centre at De Wildt near Hartbeespoort.
Together they built up the farm from Margaret’s first herb plantings of 40 years ago to the sprawling, organically-grown gardens of herbs, vegetables and superfoods of today.
Sandy became a mine of information on healthy eating, creating unique culinary, cosmetic and medicinal recipes, and it resulted in the pair of them becoming quite the team. This was their dream together – one Margaret begged Sandy never to let die – and Sandy has every intention of continuing with their work at the centre.
Margaret and Sandy have produced many series for COUNTRY LIFE on the wonders of herbs, the splendours of the kitchen garden, how to get the most from Nature’s Pantry, and the power of superfoods.
Up until Margaret’s death COUNTRY LIFE online was running a series of features from both of them that covered all of this.
Margaret’s input will be very sadly missed but Sandy has confirmed that she will continue with this series and we look forward to publishing her articles in the near future.
