Wildflower season is in full swing and we’ve got insider knowledge as to where you’re bound to find some brilliant blooms.

Namaqua West Coast

Places: Strandfontein; Maskam Guest Farm; Lankverwacht Guestfarm

  • Strandfontein (turn off towards train bridge)
  • Maskam Guestfarm (about 13km outside of Vanrhynsdorp, foot of Gifberg)
  • Lankverwacht Guestfarm (R27 – 25km north of Vanrhynsdorp)

Routes

  • N7 between Klawer & Vanrhynsdorp
  • R362 from Lutzville, Ebenhaeser towards Strandfontein
  • R363 between Klawer & Vredendal
  • Gravel Road between Spruitdrift (R363) and Lamberts Bay
  • R27 between Vredendal & Vanrhynsdorp
  • R27 from Vanrhynsdorp toward Bagdad Café
  • All around Maskam Mountains: Urionskraal and Gifberg

Places: Elands Bay

  • You’ll find wildflowers all around the town and mountain of Elands Bay as well as on the R366 towards Redelinghuys.

Sand Vygies, Bokbaai vygies, Sierings, Perdebosse, Cape Weed, Namaqua Daisies, Stinkruik

  • In and around the town and open fields
  • On the R365 past Muisbosskerm

  • All the way down the R366 to Elandsbay

Clanwilliam

  • Biedouw Valley (about 65 Km out of Clanwilliam, on the R364 on the way to Wupperthal).
  • Ramskop Nautre Reserve

Blue flax (Heliophila coronopifolia); White daisy (Dimorphotheca pluvialis); Orange daisy (Dimorphotheca sinuta); (Conisosa elongata); Beetle daisy.

  • R27 at Rondeberg Private Reserve – (private property but flowers can be seen from road)
  • Duckitt Nurseries Wildflower Reserve – farm road through reserve (R307 Darling – Mamre – in front of Duckitt Nursery)
  • Waylands – farm road through reserve (R307 to Mamre) – Visitors must please take care not to drive off the road in the Waylands and Duckitt Nurseries reserves as they may get stuck. No buses are permitted.
  • Groote Post (along Darlling Hills – good gravel road)
  • R27 at Rondeberg Private Reserve – (private property but flowers can be seen from road)
