The world’s most powerful passport award has been announced and the winner is Germany.
Citizen and planning firm, Henley & Partners, ranks the power of passports every year according to the number of countries the holder of the passport can go without a visa.
Germans can travel to 177 destinations out of 218, followed by Singapore with 176 and Denmark with 175.
Most European and Eastern countries qualify for visa-free travel to around 170 to 175 countries, while Afghanistan and Iraq can only travel to 24 and 27 countries respectively.
The humble South African passport (Green mamba) is neither in the top 20, nor in the bottom 20. It sits somewhere in the middle, with visa-free access to 90 countries, including Mauritius, Nepal, Venezuela, Thailand, Jamaica and the Bahamas.
