West Coast National Park

Western Cape
West Coast National Park, Langebaan

The West Coast National Park is my all-time favourite place to picnic. But choosing a spot, man that’s hard; there are just so many lovely beach areas and granite boulders that beg you to spread out your blanket. Outside flower season the top spot is probably the viewpoint at Seeberg near the Langebaan gate where you can sit on the lichen-covered rock outcrop surveying the park and the turquoise waters of the Langebaan Lagoon.

But when the Postberg section of the reserve opens during the August and September flower season, take a slow drive up to the parking lot near the granite spires of Vingerklippe and dine among the daisies as you take in views of the multi-coloured plains, the lagoon, the houseboats and glorious golden sands of Kraalbaai. A word of warning – it’s easy to get carried away in this mind-blowing place so set an alarm before you settle in to your picnic, to remind you of closing time.
