There are few places that have the spectacular setting of Lord’s Guest Lodge just outside of McGregor.
One drives up to it and suddenly it is revealed, craggy buildings which look as if they could easily be in Scotland except one would never be able to gaze over the African plains from there. The buildings are made from local rock and look as if they are still part of the earth from which they have sprung.
The complex itself is a one stop destination with facilities for conferences and a chapel which is very popular for weddings—and you don’t have to be Scottish. Accommodation is of a high standard with most of the cottages having spectacular views from their verandas.
The cottages are themed with famous tartans like Cameron, McGregor of course, and McKenzie, but the effect is definitely no Disneyland. Here you can relax and unwind to your hearts’ content.
The Lady Grey Restaurant serves meals in generous portions with robust flavours, dishes like ox tail and other casseroles, steaks, hamburgers and a famous pizza that never fails to please. Wines are from their own label, service is comfortable and relaxed and the setting is fabulous.
In winter the interior is warmed by an open fire place and in summer the veranda of the restaurant is the place to be. A perfect place from which to explore the surrounding area. The bar and pool set on the edge of a hill overlooking the valley below is a knockout.
